Rare Japanese Wwii Army Or Aircraft Guage CompassRare and super cool ww2 army ro aircraft? Compass. tI has a really nice wooden box with a green liner in the bottom of it. It is shaped so that it will fit the unusual adjusting knob that is located on the bottom of the compass itself.
The dial appears to be made of aluminum and it seems to have disintegrated a bit, as seen in the photos. It has an arm that can be lifted up to take a bearing for direction, and on the opposite side is a magnifying lens to work in conjunction with the arm. It doesent seem to be filled with any fluid, so i ma unsure if it originally had any or not. Additionally the knob and shaft located at hte bottom of the compass is made of brass. It is very well made. There is some japanese wriitng on the canvass carrying strap. A japanese person once told me it trnaslated something to the affect of conquering china? I didnt verify thsi so maybe you can. This compass from what i was told was brought back from the asiatic pacific at the conclusion to ww2 by an american veteran. This is a really rare and nice artifact to display in your ww2 collection. Especially iwth the japanese writing on the strap.
